From 29 March 2021, Victorian rental laws require rental providers (landlords) to ensure all gas installations and appliances are safe, properly maintained, and inspected every two years by a licensed or registered gas fitter.
Your legal responsibilities
- Gas safety checks must be completed every 2 years
- Applies to all new rental agreements or periodic tenancies after 29 March 2021
- Must be conducted by a qualified Type A Gasfitter
- Documentation must be provided to renters upon request
- Non-compliance can result in penalties and risk to occupants
